Emerging

I love the definitions of emerging: to become apparent; to move out of or away from something; to merge, to dip, to come to light…

I’ve been reflecting a lot about the concept of emerging – really been thinking about it since our COVID isolation in 2010. In the midst of aging, as I struggle with the everyday truth of that – anxiety, body limitations, pain… - how do I discover who I am as those realities unfold?

How do I integrate the old me with the new emerging me? How do I appreciate this new season of uncertainty? Not just appreciate it, but make it real, hug it close.

What does the new me have to learn and to teach in this moment? What and who do I want to emerge to? What part of my community (family, friends, church, neighbors) will accept the emerging me and which part will reject me?

And what about faith, religion, spirituality – how can I or should I expand, throw out or embrace past beliefs?

So many questions – exciting, challenging, scary.  I hope that all of us will take some time and grapple with the whole idea of emerging.

We invite you to share your emerging story. I know you got one. I can’t wait to read about it!
