Gilbert H. Caldwell Justice Ministry Award

Award presented to Gil Caldwell in 2007

CWACM

Launching a justice ministry award grew out of a need to honor and celebrate those among us who strive to make a difference on a daily basis in the church and greater society regarding issues of fair treatment, access and justice. When you look around to see who embodies all that this Movement wishes to hold up to the light of day, you see Gil Caldwell front and center.

The Gilbert H. Caldwell Justice Ministry Award launched in 2007 and Gil received the inaugural award in Boston 2007. Rev. Greg Dell was the second Justice Award recipient in 2009.

The kairos moment facing the church today is not so much the challenge to what the religious right is doing, as it is the courageous exploration of the lessons of each dehumanizing injustice while also celebrating those moments where beloved diversity is being experienced. No one understands or embodies that more than Gil. This award and accompanying event is an opportunity to give witness to that and to further the exploration of the kairos moment.
